Ami
Ami (a contraction of "Amanuensis") will create an intelligent fume cupboard, that can understand human speech (about chemistry) and is wired up to webcams, RFIDs, PDAs and many other devices. It is an adventurous project funded under the JISC's Virtual Research Environment Rapid Innnovation and aims to create proof-of concept in this area. We are working closely with Steve Ley's synthesis group and the Departmental Computer Officers.
Typical interactions could include:
"Ami, what are those reactions and when were they started?"
"the left hand one (XY237) is a Claisen rearrangement of an intermediate. The right hand one is deprotection of a TMS."
"Who owns the left one?"
"Fred Bloggs. Fred is at a conference."
"Please tweet Fred with the message 'XY237 has turned dark brown'".
We shall also investigate how the flasks are tagged (e.g. with RFIDs)
