Cambridge Crystallographic Database

CCDC The Cambridge Crystallographic Database (CCDC) is the world repository for smal molecule crystal structures.

The CCDC is a not-for-profit company and registered charity under English Law. The CCDC is financially self supporting, generating its income from:

  • Subscriptions from academia and industry for the Cambridge Structural Database System - the worldwide repository for small-molecule crystal structures
  • Revenue from sales and maintenance agreements for other software products in the life sciences and crystallography
  • Occasional grants from industry and other sources to support specific software developments or research projects

Historically, the CCDC originated in the Department of Chemistry of Cambridge University, and now occupies its own purpose-built building on the chemistry campus in Cambridge. While it is a self-administering organisation, it retains close links with the University, and is recognised as an institution that is qualified to train postgraduate students for higher degrees (PhD, MPhil) of the University.

The CCDC employs 50 staff and hosts occasional visiting scientists and students who are working on projects related to the Cambridge Structural Database or other CCDC products.

The CCDC is one of the partners in the Pfizer Institute for Pharmaceuticals Materials Science, together with the University Departments of Chemistry and Materials Science
