Computers and Hardware

We are well equipped in the Unilever Centre to both build and service computers and networks. We have a dedicated computer officer team in the Department with expertise in e.g. windows, unix, hardware and software installation and maintenance.

We have two dedicated compute servers with 96-processors each. One is standalone for parallel jobs while the other is networked to a 'flocked pool' of similar machines in 'Camgrid'.

CamGrid is a distributed computing resource based on the Condor middleware, and provides a powerful computational tool for participating university members.

Additionally, we have access to the University HPCF supercomputer. This has recently been upgraded.

    1) 256 core, 32 node GPU cluster with QDR IB and 128 Tesla GPUs
    2) 1536 core Nehalem QDR cluster 3 GB RAM per core
    3) 500 TB DDN HPC storage
    4) Scientific visualisation facility

The above upgrade is used alongside the existing 2000 Woodcrest cores
and 200 TB of storage which will stay in production.
